This research is aimed to find the effective strategies for increasing the level of the students' participation in oral activities in the oral English classroom by decreasing the negative emotions of the students in the oral activities. For this purpose, an experiment with several strategies is taken in the subjects from a common college. Besides the negative emotions like nervousness, shyness and fear, the positive emotions like excitement and relaxation are also the research objects in this experiment. Different instruments are adopted in this research, including questionnaire, interview and the teacher's observation. The data collected from the experiment are analyzed by SPSS and the results obtained provide responses to the research questions. The results show that the students' emotions have correlations with their level of participation in the oral activities. The strategies adopted in the class have some effects on decreasing the negative emotions, especially shyness. They have impact on improving the students' achievement in foreign language learning by increasing their level of engagement in speaking in the classroom.
