Rachmaninoff is one of the most outstanding representative figures in Russian musical field from the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century. He is an excellent pianist, composer and conductor. He creates a lot of music works, including opera, symphony, chorus, chamber music and song, in which the works for the piano are the most important. And the concertos win universal praise. The Third Concerto for the Piano is created in 1909. It is one of the representative works during the ripe period of his musical style. Based on the analysis of the melody, the harmony, the tonality and the musical form in The Third Concerto for the Piano, through which the particular style of Rachmanioff's works is summarized, this thesis is aimed at providing bases for the study of Rachmaninoff's works and laying the firm foundation in future musical teaching.This thesis consists of three chapters. Chapter One expounds Rachmaninoff's life experience and the creative process and background of the Third Concerto for the Piano. Chapter Two analyzes the ontology of music from the aspects of melody, harmony, tonality, total structure and the relation between the piano and the orchestra. Chapter Three concludes Rachmaninoff's creative style.
