Currently, the relationship between self-esteem and aggression is being debated by many researchers. Combining questionnaires and IAT, the present research focused on the relationship between self-esteem and aggression from conscious level and unconscious level. It demonstrated the relationship between explicit self-esteem and explicit aggression and the relationship between explicit self-esteem and implicit aggression, explored the relationship between implicit self-esteem and explicit aggression and the relationship between implicit self-esteem and implicit aggression, demonstrated the moderator role in the relationship between explicit self-esteem and explicit aggression, explored the relationship between the discrepancy between implicit self-esteem and explicit self-esteem and explicit aggression and the relationship between the discrepancy between implicit self-esteem and explicit self-esteem and implicit aggression.250 senior middle school students participated in the 1st study, including 10th, 11th, 12th grade students. In the 1st research, the researchers revised the Buss-Perry's Aggression Questionnaire. The final version of the questionnaire consists of 28 items, which belongs to physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger and hostility dimensions. In order to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire, the researchers asked another 187 senior middle school students to complete the questionnaire, also including 10th, 11th, 12th grade students. The result indicated that the questionnaire has high reliability and validity. It can be used to investigate the aggression of senior middle school students in China.210 senior middle school students took part in the 2nd research, including 10th, 11th, 12th grade students. The participants completed Rosenberg Self-esteem Questionnaire, Self-esteem IAT, Aggression IAT and the Aggression Questionnaire, which was revised in the 1st study.The results of this study are as follows:(1) The explicit self-esteem of senior middle school students was negatively related to explicit aggression, and the relationship between explicit self-esteem and implicit aggression of senior middle school students was not significant.(2) The relationship between implicit self-esteem and explicit aggression was not significant, and the relationship between implicit self-esteem and implicit aggression was not significant, either.(3) Implicit self-esteem played a moderator role in the relationship between explicit self-esteem and hostility of explicit aggression.(4) The discrepancy between implicit self-esteem and explicit self-esteem was significantly related to explicit aggression, indicating that the higher that the explicit self-esteem was than implicit self-esteem, the higher explicit aggression was.
