Some Questions On Wen Tingyun's Conducts And His Poems

The thesis includes two parts,having respectively stated the morals of Wen Tingyun and some important problems about his poems.Chapter one argues with historical records that Wen Tingyun had bad morals.We do not agree with the historical records.we come to appraise Wen Tingyun all round by analysing his own works,his life experiences and his behaviors.we think he had ambition,justice,and he did not flatter the influential officials.However, he did not have chance to realize his ideal all lifetime,therefore he ruined himself with the prostitutes together all day long.Chapter two we verify the historical records that Wen Tingyun had sold his works as goods. Wen Tingyun had created works for the influential officials,juren and also sold to prostitutes.The reasons why Wen Tingyun sold his works are not only because he was very poor,but also because the commerce flourished at that time and many writers sold their works to earn profit becoming a common practice.Chapter three discussed the influence of poem style of Mid- and Terminal-Tang Dynasty to Wen Tingyun's gorgeous poems. It's very prevalence that gorgeous poems were in Mid- and Terminal-Tang Dynasty. Poems appeared to be like CIs. Under that ethos, Wen Tingyun created lots of gorgeous poems, the content and style of which gave birth to and influenced CI profoundly.Chapter four discussed the inner connection of Wen Tingyun's poems and CIs. There are great differences between his poems and CIs. At the same time, we can see there are closely relational connections between his poems and CIs by comparing and analyzing feminine images, imago utilization and artistic conception exhibition of his poems and CIs, especially gorgeous ones. The distinct characteristics of his CIs can be hinted in his feminine themes, for example series of painted feminine portraits, his enchanting, complaining and beautiful style. On the critical point of poem and CI, Wen Tingyun was skillful not only in poems, but also in CIs, and blended with each other on some aspects. The inner connection of Wen Tingyun's poems and CIs farther confirmed his position and effect on the birth and development of gorgeous CI.
