With didacticism as the major source of thoughts, Discourse of intellectuals in Modern-time China derives its language dynamics from intellectuals' elite awareness and differentiates itself independently from others in mussy modern literary context with a forever criticism attitude. However, it has faded out over the years since 1930s after going through a period of resplendence around May Fourth Movement in Chinese history. This paper tries to set Zhang Tianyi's short stories as the subjects of the study, and sift the discourse of intellectuals from them for observing its real status in 1930s.In an attempt to analyze the real status of intellectuals' discourse in Zhang's works in 1930s, this thesis is developed in discussion on three aspects: anwesen, onomatopoeia and reflection. Through spiritual meditation, subconscious introspection and enlightening description of Chinese people's national character, together with social and cultural criticism emerged from those make-a-career ziliches, Zhang's works, focusing the theme on grass-roots people, declared the discourse anwesen of modern intellectuals in 1930s, which represented a unique attitude and a kindly hint for the pragmatic discourse among average people. In works with a theme on social-class opposition, Zhang tactfully and euphemistically delivered the profundities and fished out a zigzag path to express the discourse of intellectuals, which, as a result, made it possible to maintain its own independence in a context against modern intellectuals. In works with the theme on intellectuals, Zhang effectively started an immune mechanism and put forward the issue of building the main body of intellectuals in modem times via critical comments on intellectuals substantially, which revealed an aspirant pose and willfulness of intellectuals resulting from up-and-coming reflection and constant innovation.The above-mentioned three aspects in Zhang's works provide referential experiences for later discourse study on intellectuals in ways such as the hold of discourse independence, wisdom of expression and interpretation, the ability of self-modification and so on.
