A Comparative Study Of The Translation Thoughts Of Lu Xun And Dge-dun-chos-vphel

Based on the theory proposed by scholar Chen Fukang in his A DraftHistory of Chinese Translation Theories that translation studies can bedivided into core study (meta-translatology) and extended study (appliedstudy), the thesis first presents the definition of translation thoughts, thefeatures, and the significance of comparative study between differenttranslation theories, then makes an attempt to analyze and compare thetranslation theories of the two translators well-known in their own culturein the 20th century: Lu Xun, a Han Chinese, and Dge-dun-chos-vphel, aTibetan by birth. Due attention has been paid to their translation practice,their rational thinking, and the discrepancy and similarity of theirtheories.Both Lu Xun and Dge-dun-chos-vphel have made thorough studyon almost all aspects of translation, which is a valuable heritage forcontemporary translation studies. Their study covers two categories: first,the standard, thinking mode, translation methodology, style andaesthetics of translation; second, the aim, function, principles, criticism,training of translators, the relationship between translation studies andother disciplines and other issues concerning ethics.The thesis makes a comparative study of these two translator's translation thoughts, hoping that such a tentative research may helpintegrating translation theories in Chinese Han and Tibetan language, andbring some benefits to translation practice. The research also may lendsome enlightening help to the translation study concerning otherminorities. As a comprehensive and comparative research, the author alsohopes that it will lead to more fruitful works.
