A Study On Self-explanatory Fu Of Early And Prosperous Tang Dynasty

Among the Object-describing Fu in Tang Dynasty, the most valuable form is those of self-explanatory, in which the author take the object described as a symbol of themselves. In short, the present study refers it as SEF. It was featured that the object and the author shares some common characters. self-explanatory Fu are based on the theory of Ganwu and Xingji.On the content, a SEF broke through the standards of Confucism of ironic and praising. Rather, it expresses the issues concerned and gives out the true feelings of the author. In addition, the SEFs fell into stages in the early Tang Dynasty. In the Gaozu and Taizong era, the theme can be summarized as"to recommend oneself", Gaozong,"to get rid of sadness for oneself", Wu Zetian,"to keep one's life intact". The theme of SERs in the peak time of Tang were not as concentrated like the beginning, but showed a high self-expection besides the will of recommend themselves.Comparing to the common Object-chanting Fus, the works of SEFs in the first half of Tang Dynasty showed two features in the selection of objects: 1) the ones with a social and cultural background; 2) the ones peculiar. in"Tiwu", the SEFs focused on the similiarities of the objects and authors themselves, instead of describing them in every details. Also they pay attention on the description of the mind. In"Xiezhi", they don't have obscure meanings as common Object-chanting Fu. They collocate Tiwu and xiezhi, thus express the mind at the same time of Tiwu, which differs from Object-chanting Fus in Shugan style. They keep the objects at an arm's length from the authors, which differs from the poems in Cishi style.
