The Early Tang Dynasty and The Prosperous Tang Dynasty is not only the mostbrilliant page of the ancient history, but also the maturity and the peak of the ancientChinese art of poetry. Meanwhile, Chivalry literature actively integrates into societyin this period, extremely fits Tang spirit, and ultimately gave birth to the great, unique literary achievements: Chivalry style poem. Tang Dynasty–especially in TheProsperous Tang Dynasty, knights are prevalent, thus forms a spectacular poeticcreation, Chivalry poetry. According to my statistics, in the Complete Poetry of theTang, there are nearly two hundred Chivalry style poems created by early TangDynasty poets, and these poems are about past and future, have changing themes, styles and are diverse enough to be one type for study. So this paper which mainlystudies the Chivalry Poem in The Early Tang Dynasty and The Prosperous TangDynasty includes an introduction and five chapters:Introduction describes the significance of the topic, the definition of ChivalryPoem, historical evolution of Chivalry Poem, and explains the reason of studyingChivalry Poem in The Early Tang Dynasty and The Prosperous Tang Dynasty. This alsoleads to the next step of the paper. The study of Chivalry Poem should first study Chivalry culture. The first chapterof this paper starts from the history of Knight, focus on the discussion of Knight, thebeginning, development and maturation of Chivalry culture in The Early Tang Dynastyand The Prosperous Tang Dynasty, but also do a general study on the current statusof the academic study of Knight, which is helpful in finding the focus and difficulty ofthe study.Type poetry studying is inseparable from the text analysis, so the secondchapter concerns the Chivalry Poem that I gathered. The first step is to make ageneral introduction and classification of these poems. Focusing on the main changesof the typical imagery characteristics, language features, the second step is to makefurther in-depth interpretation. At the same time, I also found these poets who create Chivalry Poems have a common trait in many ways. On the one hand, these poems have type, modeledtraces. On the other hand, they can be divided into two categories, whichrespectively indicate different mentality out of different poets. Both of them are alsopositive responses of the poet’s life pursuit in Tang dynasty. This is the third chapterof this paper.Thereafter, the fourth chapter of this paper mainly makes a comprehensiveanalysis of the aesthetic features in Chivalry Poems and teases out different artisticqualities inChivalry Poems which are full of masculine beauty, and find why Chivalry classpoem in this particular historical era can and indeed complete its maturity andprosperity, go into the political, economic, cultural reasons behind it as well. The flourishing of Chivalry Poetry is inseparable from the Golden environmentof Tang Dynasty. Along with the decline of Tang society, Chivalry Poems also turnsharply down, quickly wither. Although other dynasties flash as the Pearl after Tang, none of them get such achievement, eventually gradually fade. The final chapter ofthis paper analyses it, which can be described as an elegy of no tune.Overall, this paper begins with the history of literature, explores Chivalry culturalorigins and significance of Chivalry, and then analyses the typical characteristics ofChivalry Poetry from the perspective of Linguistics. Secondly, from an aesthetic pointof view it examines Chivalry Poems, and analyses the reasons for its prevalence.
