This article written with the research method of judging the person and the times, based on the reorganization and the discovery of the firsthand information, first researches his biography, teachers ,friends, writings, and forms the timeline to attach, then from his survival condition finds the origin which his poetry theory, the poetry content and the style produced, then researches deep on his poetry theory, the poetry content and the artistic feature, and combined with the Zhejiang poetic world and the national poetic world on the latter Qing dynasty, discusses the special significance and the influence of his poetry theory and the creation in Eastern Zhejiang and even in the national, simultaneously seeks the individual's state of mind to struggle upward in the turbulence of the latter Qing dynasty, finally gives him proper appraisal and establishes his status in the Chinese poetry history.Through the synthetic study on Dong Pei and his poems, this article thought that Dong Pei is a typical representative of the literators in Eastearn Zhejiang at the end of the feudal society who maked every effort in the cultural pursue , threw themselves into the society and governed of very practical use. His poetry theory along Yao Xie's Chinese Wei Poem path set up a new banner on the latter Qing dynasty when thick Song Poem atmosphere existed in Zhejiang poetic world, and his poetry creation expressed the inquisition and the understanding to the history,the reality,the society and the life by the ancient and abstruse artistic style. In the entire Zhejiang poetic world of latter Qing dynasty, his status ,the value of his poetry theory and his peoms can not be neglected.
