Under the achievement situation,when people facing a significant mission or challenge, they will fear the failure, and find a way to adopt self-handicapping strategy to protect self-worth and defend self-image. Self-handicapping has many adverse effects on individual success. Both parenting styles and implicit self-esteem have important effect on self-handicapping. This study uses EMBU,IAT and SHS, researches the difference of the junior school students'parenting styles, implicit self-esteem and self-handicapping in the aspects of sex and grade, and researches the relation of the junior school students'parenting styles, implicit self-esteem and self-handicapping, and researches the intermediary role of implicit self-esteem between parenting styles and self-handicapping through the empirical method, and accumulates information and provides reference data for related studies. The study provides theoretical basis and new ideas for reducing the self-handicapping behavior of junior school students. The research conclusion is as follows:1. Both self-handicapping and implicit self-esteem had no significant difference in the aspects of gender. There was a significant main effect on parental penalty and strictness,parental over protection,paternal over involvement and paternal rejection and denying for gender. Male students had high scores on these factors compared to female students.2. The grade brought about significant difference in self-handicapping, 7th students had low scores on this factor compared to 8th and 9th students, there was no significant difference between 8th and 9th students. Implicit self-esteem had no significant difference in the aspects of grade. The grade also brought about significant difference in parental warmth and understanding and paternal penalty and strictness, 7th students had higher scores on paternal warmth and understanding than 9th students, 9th students had higher scores on paternal penalty and strictness than 7th students, 7th students had high scores on mother warmth and understanding factor compared to 8th and 9th students, there was no significant difference between 8th and 9th students.3. There was significant negative relation between implicit self-esteem and self-handicapping, there was significant positive relation between paternal warmth and understanding, there was significant negative relation between self-handicapping and paternal warmth and understanding, and there was significant positive relation between self-handicapping and paternal penalty and strictness.4. Implicit self-esteem played the complete intermediary role between paternal warmth and understanding.5. Implicit self-esteem played the complete intermediary role between mother warmth and understanding. |
