In China,poetry and painting are two artistic categories which interact and mingle with each other.Both not only have the same source but also have internal alikeness in terms of spiritual framework,thinking base,emotional details, intrinsic form,and so on. As such,in the long process of development, peotry and painting have directed to integration step by step from the contents to the forms,from part to whole.Certainly,both have their own relative independence.However,poetry and painting have been constantly mutual learning and the interactive relationship have been formed based on Chinese thinking paradigm of seeking similaritis from differences and on the requirement of their own development.In the process of integration stage by stage between poetry and painting, Song Dynasty was a key link.The relationship between poem and drawing had occurred a substaintive leap and achieved highly fusion such as"poem as drawing"centered at the combination of scholars'poetry and painting. We can say,Song Dynasty had entered a new stage of conciously creation and theoretical summary.The relationship of poem consistent with painting presented varied characteristic in different historical periods of Song Dynasty.Generally speaking,poem and drawing had begun to pay attention to express the subjective emotion and been full of strong life taste customs in the forepart of Northern Song Dynasty.So the poem and painting at that time were of fluency in sentiment rhyme.The scholars'poetry and painting prospered in the post intermediate stage of Northern Song Dynasty.They contained many aesthetic views such as valuing subjective feelings and affection,advocating vividness and expressing the authors'hearts, upholding innocence and nature,emphasizing personality cultivation,which resulted in significance of sentimental connotation and expansion of personality.Here in them could be seen the era psychology that the literati in Song Dynasty had attached importance from moral integrity to internal poetic life,or rather from "Qi" to charms.Until the Southern Song Dynasty,poem and painting further displayed evident the humanities spirit because of the social turbulance.The emotion roots were deeply implanted,which had become the maim face of then poem and drawing.All in all,the emotion was uniformly rich and individually was always prominent in the poetry and painting of the whole Song Dynasty.If we further digged the profound and rich connotation which was hidden in the relationship of poem and drawing ,we could find that Song scholars had consciousness of regression to Wei-jin manner and leisure culture,consciousness of innovation to construct unique face of Song poetry with more boldness on the basis of inheritace in previous art achievements,isomorphic consciousness of creative subject with aesthetic object,with aesthetic criteria,even with sentiment of brush and ink,diversiform retreat consciousness in downtowns,mountains,fields and gardens,officialdom,even pictures to settle down and relax their hearts,and so on.In a word,this kind of relationship of Song's poetry and painting,based on the same source,the same characters and complement,was the main reason for the formation of artistic pattern with national features.
