Research On The Negative Usage Of "Shenme"

In modern Chinese, the Negative usage of the interrogative pronoun"Shenme(什么)"is an important usage in the non- interrogative usages of"Shenme". And the Negative usage of"Shenme"is frequently used in spoken Chinese communication. As far as students abroad are concerned, it is very difficult to acquire the negative usage of"Shenme". So it becomes a nodus when we teach the students abroad Chinese as a foreign language. For this reason, research on the Negative usage of"Shenme"is significant.In this thesis, the Negative usage of"Shenme"indicates that"Shenme"expresses a negative meaning to the negated object without depending on any other negative sign. The usage exhibits that speaker assumes a certain negative attitude to the negated object.In chapter one, through the review of the formerly related research, the object, the significance and the research tentative plan of this thesis are specified. Chapter two focuses on the syntax and semantic characteristic of the Negative usage of"Shenme". This chapter mainly discusses two questions: First, through describing the Negative usage of"Shenme", we got two typical forms of it,"V Shenme X"and"Shme+'subscript'". We also got eight minor sort forms of the Negative usage of"Shenme". Second, this chapter analyzes the semantic characteristic of each form.Chapter three focuses on the function and the appropriate conditions for the applying of the Negative usage of"Shenme". Through the comparison between the Negative usage of"Shenme"and the general negative sentence, we got the unique Characteristic and the value of the function of the Negative usage of"Shenme". As for as the appropriate conditions for the applying of the Negative usage of"Shenme", this chapter mainly researches on the language style, literary style, communication situation and background of the context.Chapter four focuses on the differentiation of ambiguity about the negative usage and the interrogative usage of"Shenme".The last chapter is about the conclusion. The conclusion summarizes the contents of this research. In this chapter, we also proposed some problems that have not yet solves at present, we hope to solve these problems in the further study.
