This paper makes a study on monosyllabic verbs in ShiJi, On the basis of anglicizing the term of meaning of monosyllabic verbs, and also by anglicizing the objects each verb takes, we classified and discriminated all the monosyllabic verbs in ShiJiThe study on verbs is one of the most important tasks in Chinese grammar research; it is also one of the most complex problems in grammar research. This is because: compared with other word classes, verb is more complex within itself; verb is also one of the most active word classes, most other word classes will link to it to some degree; verb is the most important part in common sentence, composed most predicate-centered sentences and most sentence patterns. We can say that whether or not we made good study on verb is very important to the construction of whole grammar system.ShiJi is the first biography general history. This book reflect basic language visage of that period, has great meaning to study.On the basis of a reading-through of ShiJi, using the corpus of Chinese language provided by Peking University, after analysis every verb's corpus and eliminated all multi-syllable verbs and multi-word class words, we made a analysis on terms of meaning, analysis each verb's terms of meaning, and then made a classification based on it. Then we researched the original meaning of each verb, and listed all verbs which have no use of original meaning on it. All detailed content is available in chapter 2.Classification of verb is always a hard task in Chinese lingual field, by now we reach no agreement. We classified verb to action verb,psycho verb,state verb,relation verb and auxiliary five classes. We then eliminate all other verbs and focus on single-syllable action verb. we classified it to no object,one object and two objects three kind. all detailed content is available in chapter 3. This paper is divided to four parts: The first part is introduction, introduce ShiJi and research situation of ShiJi,the meaning of this paper and the methods we use; the second part is a analysis on single-syllable action verbs in ShiJi, analysis all 997 single-syllable verb's term of meaning's usage; the third part is single-syllable action verb study, in this part we classified single-syllable action verbs in ShiJi to no object,one object and two objects three kind. The fourth part is conclusion.
