"Fate" was not only used as the key word to understand the Greek spirit-world, but also used to touch the core of Greek tragedy. It absolutely cannot be ignored in studying Greek tragedy. On one hand, Greek tragedy is so complex and rich in meaning. On the other hand, it is difficult to define or explain the "Fate". However, fate plays so important a role in tragedy, it leads to such a situation that people always put it with tragedy together. Basically speaking, it is definitely significant to do this research, and is crucial to make this subject clear. Fate is a concept concerns about both Philosophy and Literature.It has already been a common sense about the relationship between Greek tragedy and Fate. However, it is far away from achieving an agreement. In many essays, the authors often held original theories and ideas, and seldom gave the excellent explanations.This research is based on above situations and tries to recognize the relationship between Greek tragedy and Fate after comparing them in many aspects. The researches of Fate in Greek tragedy often strand us into a plight. This is because of the dim meanings about fate and the complex characters of Greek tragedy. However, it brings another problem, which shades our viewpoints on Greek tragedy. Meanwhile, it becomes more and more difficult to make the relationships between Fate and Greek tragedy clearly. Hence, it is crucial to understand the Fate thoughts in Greek exactly.Concerning about the Fate, there is a solid relationship between Literature and Philosophy. In this thesis, it is trust that the thoughts about Fate are correct with the ideas about universe, nature and human beings tightly. A great number of viewpoints concerning justice, sin, penalty, judgment, and goodness are developed. "Fate" is a basic word of Greeks, it not only functions in the realm of daily life, but also becomes the basic subject of the texts of myth, epic, tragedy. The concept of fate talked about in the Ancient Greek tragedies is one of human's problems persistently unsolved. It exists in all human's ages and all peoples, and deeply affecting their life attitude and spiritual outlook. In view of the early concept of fate, one's whole life is doomed by his fate, one has nothing to do but yield to the fate, and everyone has his own destiny that is doomed before his birth. When facing up with the Fate, Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides owned both agreements and disagreements. Those schools of Greek Fate-positions deeply influence people throughout many periods, including modern persons. Greek tragedy, which indicated the site of human beings in universe, teaches people to keep dignity of life solidly and burden all the pains bravely.
