Background: Subjective well being (SWB) refers to a person's feeling of being satisfied, healthy and happy in his life. It can act as an important comprehensive psychological index to evaluate the quality of personal life. A person's subjective evaluation of his quality of life can reveal whether he is satisfied with his life or not:As an agricultural country ,China has a large percentage of rural population. As our national economy develops,the living conditions in rural area have changed radically,public education have been greatly improved,and farmers' living standard has been raised considerably. The widely-spread system of rural cooperative medical care is attracting to more and more people's attention and farmers' medical care has been further ensured.But,whether good economic status,improved level of life and secure health care can result in farmers' better subjective well-being needs to be further studied. The purpose of this research is to analyze fanners' subjective well-being and the related factors so as to provide information for improving farmers' quality of life.Objective: Stratified Chester sampling method was used in surveys.4550 fanners from 1179 families in 36 villages were surveyed. All the data were sorted by the Institute of Social Medicine and Health Administration. and satistically analyzed by using SPSS13.0 software.Methods: The survey mainly involved the following information. 1.The demographic features of family members,such as sex,age,marital status,educational background and job.2.The economic status of a family(whether the family was poor according gocernment's standards).3.The chronic diseases of family members and the hosipitalizations in 2006.Content: Logistic regression model was used to analyze farmers' well-bing and the related factors inferms of age,economic and marital status,educational background,jobs,chronic disease among family members and the hospitalizations in 2006.Results: Major findings are listed below. 1.The demographic features reveals no significant differences in SWB caused by sex.The overal SWB declined with age.Better SWB were got in married and unmarried people than in widows or widower and the divorced.People's SWB increased with better educational background. Jobs have a great effect on farmers' SWB.2.Better economic status produced better SWB.3.Farmers of non-chronic disease caused better SWB than of chronic disease. Farmers treated in hospital had better SWB than non-hospitalization patients.Main Conclusion: 1 .Farmers' subjective well-being can be affected by family members' demographic features,such as sex,age,marital status,educational background and jobs.2.A family's ecomomic status (whether rocognized as poor by government) has san effect on SWB.3.Chronic diseases of family members and the hospitalization in 2006 play a role in changing farmers' SWB.
