The Study On Jin Yong's Novels From The Perspective Of Language

This dissertation takes Jin Yong's Kung Fu novels as the object of study. Embarking from the linguistics angle of view and utilizing the research methods of corpus linguistics and mathematical statistics, the author analyzes and discusses the characteristics of the word usage in Jin Yong works with the aid of ordinary linguistics, applied linguistics, lexicology and other theories and on the basis of the participle and in the part-of-speech tagging to the Jin Yong Kung Fu novel text. Thus the author promulgates the language specialty of Jin Yong Kung Fu novels and its influence on people's daily life. This dissertation can be divided into six chapters:Chapter One: IntroductionBeginning from the relationship between language development and literary works, the author first introduces the development of popular literature and the influence of Jin Yong's novels on people after the implementation of reform and opening up policy in China. Then the author introduces the present research situation of Jin Yong's novels and discusses the significance of researching on literature works from the angle of linguistics. The author also introduces the instructive theories and the research methods. Finally the innovations and difficulties of this research have been briefly explained.Chapter Two: The Establishment of Language Corpus Database of Jin Yong's NovelsIn this chapter the author first summarizes Jin Yong's Kung Fu novel from the aspects of plot's time order, characterization and artistic achievements. Then the author briefly introduces the establishment of language corpus database in Jin Yong's novels, and carries on classification and explanation on all sorts of mistakes in the corpus database. In addition, the author also briefs the situation of database establishment.Chapter Three: Analysis on the Character and Term Frequency in Jin Yong's NovelsThe statistical result on character frequency in his novels showed that Jin Yong uses altogether 5142 Chinese characters in his novels. The high frequency characters are basically monosyllable words. Moreover, these characters have some syntax and semantic function. Most of the low frequency characters are rare words. The statistical result on term frequency in Jin Yong's novels showed that Jin Yong uses about 30,000 words in all. All the higher frequency terms are monosyllable words, among which structural auxiliaries, personal pronouns and the demonstrative pronouns account for a great proportion. Through comparison between the words in Lu Ding Ji (Royal Tramp) and Modern Chinese Dictionary (the 5th edition), the author finds out that the words used by Jin Yong are mainly on the basis of typical modern Chinese. Jin Yong makes some innovation on proper nouns, custom terminology, idiom and onomatopoetic.Chapter Four: Analysis on Language Characteristics in Jin Yong's NovelsIn this chapter, the author inspects the language characteristics in Jin Yong's novels from the usage of general glossary, explores the features of words usage in Jin Yong's novels and their influence and contribution on modern Chinese from the utilization of idioms, ancient words, onomatopoetic and colloquial language.Chapter Five: The Influence of Jin Yong's Novel on People's Language LifeFrom personal experience, through enumerating the use of Jin Yong's novel language in network language, computer games, cartoon and other circumstances, the author carries on description and explanation on the infiltration of Jin Yong's novel language to people's daily life language.Chapter Six: ConclusionIn this part the author summarizes the whole dissertation from a general view and points out the limitation in the research, and makes a tentative plan to further researches.
