The Study On Widow's Life-situation Of Qing Dynasty In HuBei

The widows was the objectively existent role in the human society, they ware a special community in female'. As the minority groups, they received widespread attention from the government and the folk public opinion. This dissertation, in the theory and method of gender, analyzes the low class widow's life-stituation of Qing Dynasty in Hubei. This dissertation also analyses the phenomenon of forcing and grabbing widows to marry again, indicates that the period of Qing dynasty was the time of systemic, religious and common idea of chastity, but when the widows faced the survival pressure, they often chose remarries. In the conflict between ideality and reality, people in low class usually leaded more realistic life, and their choices were always alive in the society, social reality contravened ideality of chastity seriously concealing by encouragement of chastity.Encouragement of the government and advocation of the local scholar-bureaucrat made a social enviroment for widows compling with chastity. Whether, from the society or from the widows themselves, compling with chastity was the windows' rational choice, it also was the social ideality during that period. But along with the social economy's development of Qing Dynasty, each kind of social question also gradual revealed, especially from the Qing Dynasty intermediate stage, the phenomenon of forcing and grabbing widows to marry again become become one social questions which the communities paid attention diffusely, also widows' life-stituation presented a more complex situation. Through the analysis, we can comprehend, after widows loss their husbands, they could comple with chastity or remarry also, as a result of benefit calculation, on one hand their action of compling with chastity gained people's praise, on the other hand they were used as tools for some interests. To the lower level populace, under the survival pressure, the chastity ideal and social reality serious deviation.
