With the end of the Cold War, some scholars in cultural studies began to explore the formation, development, and influence of globalization. Globalization has become a disputable fact and existence.In the context of globalization, culture problems are much more conspicuous and become the most heated field to which many scholars have shifted. Culture globalization is an indispensable and important dimension of globalization. One of the noticeable characteristics of it is that the cultural products of one particular nation or region can be diffused rapidly in all directions outwardly. The inevitable interactions and contacts of different cultures as well as the accompanying conflicts and clashes bring people deep-seated anxiety and even panic to some extent. The debates on its connotation, as well as on its positive and negative impacts, make the study of culture globalization have far-reaching significance.From the perspective of globalization, this dissertation studies the culture globalization's impacts on countries and on various cultures in the world, especially on China and Chinese culture. It probes into the corresponding strategy for China to adopt in coping with these problems, explores the theoretical guidance to rely on, and offers suggestions.The dissertation consists of six parts, including the introduction, conclusion and four chapters of the main body, among which the introduction part briefs the background, objective, significance of the research and the organization of the dissertation. Chapter 2 is a literature review. It first displays theoretical foundations and concepts that this dissertation is based upon. Then it exhibits current researches on culture globalization, multiculturalism, culture diffusion, and Confucius Institute both home and abroad. Chapter 3 discussess the impacts culture globalization has on countries and their cultures, including the negative threats and challenges together with opportunities and new visual angles. Chapter 4 seeks multiculturalism as the most adequate theoretical guidance and ideological concept for China, and for all the countries that intend to boost their images and enhance their competitive power internationally in the context of culture globalization. Chapter 5 analyzes culture diffusion as the corresponding strategy China should adopt under the impacts of culure globalization, by discussing its means– international education and offering an in-depth case study of Confucius Institute. Finally, it provides solutions to the problems China encounters, and makes suggestions to the Chinese culture diffusion strategy.The conclusion is reached that theoretically guided by multiculturalism, Chinese culture diffusion is the right strategy and corresponding measure for China to adopt in order to retain national culture identity, to develop and promote Chinese culture worldwide, to protect the diversity of world culture heritage, to boost its image and enhance competitive power, and to create a harmonious world in the context of globalization.
