A Comparative Study On The Design Culture Between China And The West In History

Yang Zhenning has said that the 21st century is the century of design. Madame Thatcher when she was being prime minister has also said that Britain's economy can leave the government, but can't leave the design. The modern design has already developed in West for more than 100 years. But it has only developed several dozens years in China. Design, especially design theory, is still very weak in our country. The theories research and explorations relative to design are being established and becoming active. Inheriting must be considered before developing. It is important for our country, which has bright civilization and rich cultural resources, how we can absorb outstanding achievement of Western culture and Chinese culture and how we can make the ancient traditional culture and the design philosophy glow vitality by modern advanced technology and information resource to promote the development of design. Therefore, this paper attempts to begin from the Chinese and western special philosophy viewpoint understand the essential of design by comparative research of Chinese traditional design philosophy with the western design philosophy, try to promote the integration and the development of the eastern design philosophy with the western design philosophy.The paper includes five parts. The introduction points out content and significance of this paper. The first part discusses Chinese design culture and traditional design idea, and the second part compares Chinese traditional aesthetic thought with western from four aspects. The third part elaborates philosophical basis and theory skeleton of the modern western design. It also analyzes influencing factors for design,such as technology,economy and culture. The fourth part elaborates the interaction of neoteric design culture between china and the west. It also analyzes design philosophy, culture or historical development of typical Western countries, then points out the benefit for Chinese design philosophy. The fifth part elaborates the integration of the Chinese design philosophy with the western design philosophy. The last part is the conclusion of the whole paper.
