This paper tries to from the angel of family drama probe into the following subject: Cao yu's acceptance to O'Neill, his trial and Chinese drama's development process from babyhood stage to mature stage. Using the influential and parallel method this paper discuss from the following three points: theme, image and artistic technique. From the reason why CaoYu has his way to borrow and reject part of O'Neill's drama, we can conclude the rule under which domestic writers read foreign writers' works for reference. So that we could go further on CaoYu's research. From our research on Caoyu, we could find out the significance of china's drama facing more and more foreign influence.The first part discusses Cao Yu's acceptance to O'Neill on family drama mainly from the aspect of theme,character image, artistic technique.The second part mainly focuses on the points on which Cao Yu surpasses O'Neill. What CaoYu made is also national achievement. This part also discuss from the aspects of theme, character image and artistic technique.The third part investigates Cao Yu's acceptance to O'Neill and the rule under which our national achievements appears which can be divided into the following four aspects: The reason why CaoYu accepts O'Neill, the criterion in which Cao Yu decide his acceptance and rejection, the inevitability of national trend and the influence of Caoyu's success to drama field and even literature field.Though Caoyu's family drama is influenced by O'Neill on the aspects of theme, character image and artistic technique, due to the limit of Chinese traditional drama culture and the social environment, Caoyu's drama only accept O'Neill's realistic part and his style differs from O'Neill in the aspect of artistic technique. Caoyu's success in family drama tells us: we should never mimic others blindly, but need to accept or reject foreign influence consciously base on our own culture and the social environment. Only through this, could we develop our own style and achieve the real achievement.
