Research On Function Words In The Classic Of Mountains And Seas

The study of Chinese function words is an important part of Chinese grammar study. Through the thorough research of Chinese function words in a specific book, we can see the features of them in a period of time. " Book of Mountains and Seas" is an important literature in the Period of pre-Qin, the words used in the book have great effect on the Chinese ancient language. The former scholars have studied them in the aspects of their nature, the geographical value, "Story of witch" , titles of chapters or articles in the book and editions, the author, the time of the production of the book, the scope of the geography, etc. But from of them studied this book through the angle of language characters and discussed the grammars and the value of words during the ancient times. These are the reasons why this paper talks about Chinese function words in the angle of grammar.This thesis, mainly by flat depicts, makes a quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis on function words in The Classic of Mountains and Seas, investigates and analyzes the distribution, pragmatic function, and occurrence frequency of each function word. It reveals the practical state of function words as well as their relation of passing down to pre-Qin period by a thorough analysis and lasted comparison, and shows directly the classification of function words and their distribution in 18 volumes of The Classic of Mountains and Seas by listing, which provides materials for the study of Chinese history.
