Probe On The Initial Consonant Of Historical Strata In Shaoyang Dialect

This dissertation is a tentative contribution to the historical strata of the Shaoyang dialect of the Chinese language. Historical stratification is a new method to uncover dialectal history, which regards the modern Chinese dialects in south China as a result of the parallel development of both split and convergence , and not only the result of pure split. As the southern dialects of the Chinese langauage have been subject to the historical influences from the north dialect for a long time, in its synchronic system have formed a number of "heterogeneous" historical strata. So, in the study of the history of the southern dialects the historical comparative method may not be effective. However, historical stratification should be made first. Only within the same stratum the comparative method is applicable.In order to make a large-scale historical stratification of the Shaoyang dialects, the author, directed by the tutor, has built a database from Shaoyang dialect materials under the use of database technology, all the analyses of this dissertation are based on the comprehensive and exhaustive comparison of the dialectal data. The significance of this paper in the following aspects:â… ,This dissertation has a positive significance to test the new theory of Historical stratification for it is the first time to use it probing the history strata of Shaoyang dialect.â…¡,the history strata of Chinese dialects research are oncoming. This dissertation deepened some issues of Shaoyang dialect researches which are concerned by academic studies with regard to some kinds of sound analysis.The dissertation consists of the following parts. The introduction gives a brief presentation of the background and the new ideas of the investigation methods and the significance, elaborates the theory problems of Historical stratification briefly, besides, the data and references used for the study have been listed. From the second to twelfth chapter it analyses the history strata of Shaoyang dialect Initial consonant, and in the appendix, it verifies and expounds the two vocables with sound and no word.
