The Yiyang city is located in the middle north of Hunan province. The Yiyang dialect may be divided into three basic areas:Xiang dialect Chang Yi piece,Xiang dialect Loushao piece, southwest Mandarin area,the Yiyang dialect we usually said is the Xiang dialect Chang Yi piece part. The large quantity of lateral initial consonant character and its widespread origin is a remarkable characteristic of Yiyang dialect. The works and papers concerned the Yiyang dialect pay much attention on this special language phenomenon. Also some people once have made the special study on this phenomenon, like Chen Puqing "Yiyang Dialect Lateral Initial Consonant "Xu Hui "the Lateral Initial Consonant Character Many Was the Yiyang Dialect Main Characteristic - Reads ' Hunan Dialect Report of Investigation' ", Lei Yuliang"[l] Consonant Similarities and differences in Santang Street Speech, Yiyang Speech and the Standard Spoken Chinese". But the distributed situation of Yiyang dialect initial consonant character [1] waits for further investigation clearly, the reasons that lateral initial consonant character broadly originates and quantity many also need making the thorough discussion. Along with society's transformation, the economical cultural development, the popularization of broadcasting, television, movie daily and the unceasingly developed work to promote Putonghua , the Yiyang dialect starts to form the development tendency that similar with Putonghua, specially in young people's language, lateral initial consonant character has already greatly reduced. This particularity in lateral initial consonant of Yiyang dialect will face the possibility of vanishment. This article takes the Yiyang dialect lateral initial consonant as research object. On the foundation of widespread field investigation about Yiyang city Heshan area, Ziyang area, Taojiang, Yuanjiang, Anhua, Nan county's dialect and the dialects of surrounding cities ,we utilize some methods such as static state description, crosswise comparison, longitudinal comparison, map drawing, to research the ancient pronunciation origin and the historical evolution rule of the Yiyang dialect lateral initial consonant character.
