Mariginal Man runs through all of Bai Xianyong's novels as a clue and theme. This work chooses the writing of Mariginal Man as a starting point to study his novels. Based on the analysis of the form and spiritual status of Mariginal Man, Bai's pursuit of art in his writing, with the consideration of his life experience, emotional tendency and literature ideas, is elaborated to explore the significance and limitation of his writing.The literature review of Bai's novels and the definition of Mariginal Man are distributed in the first part of this work. The main part deals with the form and the spiritual connotation of Mariginal Man, and the art pursuit and reasons for creation of Mariginal Man.The first chapter is the form and spiritual connotation of Mariginal Man. The content of the novels is manifested through four aspects: the status of Mariginal Man (wandering and fleeing), the spiritual predicament of Mariginal Man (Vanity and anxiety), the abnormal emotion and tragedy spirit of seeking their home (madness and death).The second chapter is the art pursuit of creating Mariginal Man. The aesthetic form is shown through four aspects: the activities and artistic conception of imagination of Mariginal Man (scenes and imagination), the stream of consciousness in interlaced time and space, the viewpoint of the spectators and the subject.The third chapter is the reasons for creating Mariginal Man. The subject in Bai's writing is analyzed in view of his life experience, pursuit of art and literature ideas.The conclusion is reached in the last part that Mariginal Man, an image throughout all of Bai's novels, has close connection with his creation.
