As the rapid development of international communication, the need for talented translators is increasing, and the problems surrounding translation discipline construction have aroused the interest of numerous scholars and teachers.The establishment of Mater of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) shows the development of construction of translation teaching in China. It is a milestone in the history of translation teaching in China. However, it is not a symbol of perfect. Compared with other countries (Canada, U.S., France, and so on) and regions (like Hong Kong, Taiwan), it still need improving.It will be beneficial if the scholars base their research into the construction of translation teaching program. Therefore, this thesis analyzes the current situation of translation study and translation discipline construction in China by means of literature review, comparison and introspection. It further delves into the orientation of the translation discipline, the goal of translator cultivation, the cultivation model, translation teaching content, evaluation and testing, etc. The study also puts forward some possible solutions to relevant problems or issues in above areas.Relying on linguistic and language teaching theories, this study analyzes the concepts of translation, translation teaching, teaching translation, etc.; suggests a systematic translation teaching program and clear teaching objectives, stresses to refer to resources available by applying to new technology to meet social and personal demands; advocates social practice and scientific evaluation system.The study cites current material, and illustrates the relationship between different factors in translation teaching program by means of tables. It thus lays a solid foundation for further theoretical study of translation teaching. Meanwhile, on the basis on comparison, it provides enlightenment and reference to translation teaching and research.
