| Objective:(l)To investigate personality characteristics of psychological counseling practitioners. (2)To investigate the vocational interests of psychological counseling practitioners. (3)To explore the relationship between personality characteristics and vocational interests of the psychological counseling practitioners.Methods: Taking the population sampling methods to investigate 154 psychological counseling practitioners as study group,and taking the 148 the trainees of psychological counseling as comparison group. Using self-designed questionnaire,the California Personal Inquiry Revised in China(CPI-RC),and the Ling's Chinese Vocational Interest Test(LCVIT) to the study group and comparison group. 131 questionnaires were eligible in study group, 122 questionnaires were elgigible in comparisons group. The data were analyzed and dealt with SPSS14.0, the analyzing methods included descriptive statistics analysis, chi-square test,ANOVA, partial correlate, and stepwise regression.Results: (1) In CPI,the practitioners' mean scores were much higher than the national norm in all 20 scales(P<0. 01). (2) The comparison group's mean scores were much higher than the national norm except feminity(P<0. 01). (3) The practitioners had more scores indominance, self-acceptance, socialization, self-control, good impression, feminity compared to the comparison group(P<0.01). (4) The practitioners' personality types were mainly alphas and gammas. (5) There were significant differences in self-realization level between the practitioners and the comparison group(P<0.01). (6) Male practitioners had much more scores in independence, self-control and sense of well-being than female practitioners(P<0.01). Female practitioners had much more scores in sociability,social presence, empathy and psychological mindedness than male practitioners(P<0.01) .(7) Age influenced 7 scales significantly including empathy,good impression, senseof well-being, achievement via conformance, psychological mindedness, flexibility and feminity.(8) Specialty influenced sociability, social presence responsibility and tolerance and psychological mindedness significantly. (9) The order of practitioners' vocational interests types was: social, investigative, conventional, enterprising, realistic and artistic.They were significantly difference in social and conventional type compared with comparison group (P<0.01). (10) Male practitioners' vocational interests tendency were social and enterprising.Female practitioners' vocational interests tendency were social and conventional.They were significantly different in social, investigative, conventional, realistic, and artistic (P<0.01). (11) Age influenced significantly in investigative and artistic. (12) Specialty background influenced significantly in investigative and social. (13) The relationship between the characteristic and vocational interests of psychological counseling practitioners:①Sociability, social presence and psychological mindedness were negatively related to the realistic type.②Achievement via independence, intellectual efficiency were positively related to investigative type.③Capacityforstatus, achievement via conformance, flexibility were positively related to artistic type.④Empathy, tolerance, social presence, responsibility, sociability were positively relate to social type, introversion- extroversion was negatively related to social type.⑤Achievement via independence,social presence,sociability were positively related to enterprising type, introversion-extroversion was negatively related to enterprising type.⑥Achievement via independence, flexibility, dominance were positively related to conventional type, communality was negatively relate to conventional type.Conclusions: (1) The psychological counseling practitioners had better mental health status,and the mental maturity degree was high. Their characteristics were benefit for psychological counseling. compared to comparison group,they had more self-value sense,more independent and matrual, they were more good at social communication, they could understand others more sensitively, they had confidence in self-feeling. (2) The characteristics were influenced by sex, age and speciality background.Female practitioners were much better than male in social communication and psychological mindedness. Male practitioners were more independent and cautious,and had better sense of well-being. The older practitioners could more easily understand others than the young. They were more optimistic and could easily co-operated. (3) Practitioners' vocational interests were social type. Empathy, tolerance, social presence, responsibility, sociability were positively relate to social type, introversion- extroversion was negatively related to social type. (4)Female practitioners had tendency in social type,younger practitioners had much more socres on investigative and artistic type,medical practitioners had tendency in social type(P<0.01). |
