Image Translation From The Perspective Of Common Sense In The Fields Of Thought And Culture

There has always been an argument, whose essence is "what on earth should be translated" in the translation circles both at home and abroad. To solve this problem, or at least to explore a feasible approach, the author deeply researches the thinking content beneath the expression form of translation and language, namely, Image, which is nothing more than the purest essential content that human beings attempt to express. However, it is obvious that due to the effect of all sorts of barriers and differences, image will become incomplete or even be twisted at last in the process of image's transmission to the translation via the original language. In translating, therefore, we should see through the source text to get the original images and exhibit them by shaking away the limitations of the source text. While in this process, we must utilize common sense of human beings. Owing to human beings' common sense, we can discover and understand the original images on the basis of the universality in thoughts, cultures and languages.This thesis is an exploration from a new perspective that takes common sense as the premise of realizing translation and image translation as the theory. The whole thesis consists of six parts. Aside from the Introduction and the Conclusion, the main body is composed of four chapters altogether. The following is a brief introduction to each part.The Introduction declares the author's motivation of this research project, the origination of the relevant theory, as well as the expected goal and significance of the research.Chapter 1 firstly introduces the theory of common sense elaborated by Kant. He indicated common sense in "knowledge", "judgment", "emotion" and "communicability of senses". Secondly, the author tries to combine common sense with translation. By means of looking for the essence and universality in the three fields of translating process, foundation and purpose, the author finally concludes that the successful translation is to use common sense to immediately exchange the information or idea on the event with the same nature, to produce sympathetic response to the resemblance, and to transmit the feeling on the distinguishing characteristics or features of things.Chapter 2 discusses the interrelation between common sense and thought as well as culture. Besides the survey of thought and culture, the effect and embodiment of common sense on the two aspects are also shown. Then, at the same time of admitting the distinctions in thoughts and cultures, the author researches the primary reason causing the consistency in their essences, that is, the commonplace of human's nature is the basic cause of the universality in thoughts, cultures and languages. At last, the author points out that the universality in addition to the different nations' deepening understanding of all aspects of each other's civilization in the globalizing procedure will benefit the application of common sense conversely.Chapter 3 is a combination of common sense and image with translating. Image is firstly summarized, and then the three layers of image including the objective, the subjective and the changeable as well as how to link image with common sense are discussed. Finally, the author illustrates the feasibility of image translation from the perspective of common sense separately from the three aspects of thought content, cognition process and expression essence, and poses the necessity of solving the argument in translation circles by using this method.Chapter 4 is the application of practice in the most part. The general feasibility of this method is explained from the angles of term, sentence and discourse. And the later part also analyzes its prospect in theory.The Conclusion is a summary of the former contents. Besides, because the translators always keep on improving the translation, a further study should be made for the application of the theory in practice.
