Meiniang's Novel Writing

During the late 1920s to 1930s and 1940s, the Chinese literary arena covered under the strong political climate.Quite a number of female writers focused on creating literary works which reflected the social revolution and the emancipation of the nation. Meanwhile, outside this main trend, in the "low pressure" enemy-occupied environment, some female writers still persisted in performing innermost feelings and experience, narrating the trivial matters of common people, especially paying attention to the feminine destiny, which displayed very strong feminine consciousness; and MeiNiang was one of those female writers. After having experienced great hardships, she was gradually brought to researcher's attention from the 1990s, whereas her fame was equal to that of ZhangAiling at that time. Compared with ZhangAiling's success, MeiNiang appeared to be treated coldly. Why was MeiNiang unknown to public for over a half century? What are the characteristics of her works to attract so many readers at the troubled times ? what kind of contribution has her writing made for the literary arena ? Regarding these questions, the author will elaborate in this paper from the below aspects to do some research on Mei Niang and her novel creation.The paper is divided into two parts: introduction and the body. The introduction part has mainly mentioned the time background which MeiNiang created, the goal and the significance of paper writing, along with the brief literature summary.The body of this paper is composed of four chapters: The first chapter is some historical facts about MeiNiang's life which mainly recorded Mei Niang's legend life experiences and her literature achievements in different periods.The second chapter probes her grasp of feminine angle of view. She paid more attention to the feminine destiny, to masculine world ridiculing with the denial as well as to the discussion of feminine weaknesses. The author elaborates from three aspects: First,focusing on female. She made female as dramatis personae in her novel and unfolded the feminine destiny by feminine vision;second, describing behind-the-scenes male. She made male as dramatis personae and satirized male by feminine vision in order to highlight the dark society which the female resisted. Third, reflect on feminine weaknesses, such as recreance, adhering psychology and restriction from consciousness of male power.The third chapter bemoan the state of the universe and pity the fate of humankind. The author analyzesThe basic point of MeiNiang's creation. According to it, she presented remarkable literary works. The author elaborates from three aspects: first, MeiNiang sympathized for female; second,she cared about children; third, she felt sad and pitiful for lower class in society.The fourth chapter refers to the national consciousness in her works. Though she was in the enemy-occupied area and far away from politics, she bore the national mood in her work.The fifth chapter is about MeiNiang's creative experience. There are three points about her experience: utilization of her own experience; persevering humanitarianism tradition; writing of Liberalism.
