The Thought And Practice Of The Structual Counterpoint

Prof. Jia Daqun has suggested the theory of music construction analysis based on his long-term composition practice and theoretical research. The theory originating from the structuralism theory emphasizes on music constructions and the relationships between those structural elements from the composition point of view, and then the multiple constructions within musical works and their synchronizing counterpoint phenomenon are studied comprehensively. According to his construction analysis, Prof. Jia has further developed the "structural counterpoint theory". It enlightens the expanding research on the structural aspect of 20th century musical works.The paper is based on Prof. Jia's structural counterpoint theory. The author carefully analyzes selected works and studies the structural counterpoint phenomenon in these works. The author studies the various relationships between different structural elements in these works and tends to clarify the breakthrough and expansion of the structural aspects in 20^th century compositions.The paper is divided into three parts. The first chapter is focused on the structural counterpoint theory and the concept, the scope and meaning of the theory are introduced. The second and the third chapters are the empirical study in the context of structural counterpoint theory. The author conducted in-depth study on the developing tendency of structural counterpoint in musical works from Classical Period, Romantic Period and 20^th century in a historical order.
