The Guangzhou Commercial Association In Confrontation Between Nanjing And Guangdong

In the period of confrontation between Nanjing and Guangdong, Guangzhou local government was against the central government. The founding of the Second Guangzhou Government and the Liangguang Incident (Guangzhou and Guangxi Event) respectively declared the beginning and ending of "confrontation between Nanjing and Guangdong". This paper focuses on the development of the Guangzhou Commercial Association between these two events, studies its attitudes and activities in politics, economy, society and other aspects, and tries to analyze its social position and effect. The Guangzhou Chamber of Commerce was suffering a political dilemma, and always changed its standpoint with the fast changing situation, so it basically became the dependency of governments. However, it still got financial independency, especial in tax reduction. It showed its leadership and organizing ability to protect the interests of its members. It also put to good use of the social function in social charity, self development and the champion of loving motherland and protecting her from Japanese invaders, and played very important role.
