Based on 400,000 characters language materials, taking quantitative and qualitative analysis as a combination of methods, this paper mainly researches the differences of the modifier-noun phrase in the length distribution, language form, semantic meaning and rhetoric distribution between the artistic style and the scientific style.In the aspect of the length distribution, the long modifier-noun phrase in artistic style is less than in scientific style. In the aspect of the language form, the word order of the modifier-noun phrase in artistic style is more flexible, the attribute is put behind the central word sometimes, and several modifier-noun structures are often set together in order. The word order of the modifier-noun phrase in scientific style is relatively fixed, the attribute is not often behind the central word, but some attributes or central words are often set together in one modifier-noun structure. In the aspect of the semantic meaning, artistic style use more descriptive, contradictory and repetitive attribute, while scientific style use more restrictive attribute and the semantic meaning of attribute and central word are indentity. The outstanding semantic meaning is "supernormal" in artistic style, while in scientific style is "accuracy". The semantic combination of attribute and central word in artistic style show more variations, and there are more conventional combinations in scientific style. The attribute and central word sometimes uses their transferred meaning in artistic style, and the scientific style usually uses their original meaning. As for the rhetoric distribution, the kinds and quantities of the rhetoric of modifier-noun phrase in artistic style are used more than in scientific style, and its frequency in artistic style is higher than in scientific style.This article holds that the modifier-noun phrase have many obvious differences between the artistic style and the scientific style. This not only relates to the features of the two styles, but also relates to the way of thinking in the construction of the two styles.
