The Analysis Of Examples In Three Monolingual Chinese Learner's Dictionaries

The definitions and examples in a learner's dictionary are of great importance as they are the key component and main part of each entry.In order to investigate the details of the examples,this paper selected "Leaner's Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese[Elementary Level]","The Commercial Press Learner's Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese "and "A Dictionary of Chinese Usage:8000 Words" three relatively new published dictionaries in great influence,with their examples for inspecting.Firstly,statistical analysised on the mode of using examples, the number and the types of examples,then analysis the overall characteristics of the examples in three Chinese learner's dictionaries.Secondly,contrasted the examples from three micro-level contains the semantics,the grammer and the pragmatics,study the way examples provided semantic information,grammatical and pragmatic usage of the headwords,concluded the achievements and weakness of each dictionaries.Finally, discussed the approach and the principle of examples in Chinese learners' dictionary on the basis of early statistical analysis.And attempted to put forward the" balancing the needs of semantics,syntax,pragmatic","difficulty in an orderly manner, Common used priority" and " focus on practical,highlighting communication "as three principles in the compile the examples in Chinese learner's dictionaries.
