A Study On The Relationship Among Self-esteem, Academic Self-esteem And Self-handicapping, Learned Helplessness In Courty Middle School's Students

Self-esteem is a key part of the self'structure, which have important influence on human's thinking, emotion and behavior. The Self-esteem has been playing a key role in the growing-up of the individual. Researches on Self-esteem whose history were more than half a century have made great progress by the discussion of world's scholars. However, researches on Self-esteem's mentality and behavior's function based on the background of the academic achievement are lacked. This study tried to discuss the relationship among Self-esteem, Academic Self-esteem and Self-handicapping, Learned Helplessness by the setting of middle school students as employees. For this purpose, four researches were employed:Study one, questionnaire was used to investigate student'Self-esteem level, Academic Self-esteem level and Self-handicpping, Learned Helplessness strategies. In this research, 567 employees come from middle school of country in grade eight and eleven took part in this investigation. Correlation analysis, variance analysis, regression analysis is employed to analyze the study result. The statistic test result showed that: one, Self-handicapping and Learned Helplessness is strategies used on the background of the Academic achievement; two, significant positive correlations between Self-esteem and Academic Self-esteem, significant positive correlations between Self-handicpping and Learned Helplessness, significant negative correlations between Self-esteem, Academic Self-esteem and Self-handicapping, Learned Helplessness were educed from this study; three, Academic Self-esteem has not agency's fuction between Self-esteem and Self-handicpping, Learned Helplessness, and Self-esteem is the strong forecast for Self-handicapping, Academic Self-esteem is the strong forecast for Learned Helplessness.Study two, situation simulation was used to validate the relationship between Self-esteem and Self-handicapping in special evaluating setting that explored by research one by an experiment using between-subject design. 126 employees of study one participated this study. The feedback to mental test as stimulated setting was used to discuss different Self-esteem level of employees'Change of Emotion, Self-esteem level and Behavioral Self-handicapping. The results as follows: one, in successful setting, emotion and self-worth of students with high or low Self-esteem has not remarkable difference. In the unsuccessful setting, self-worth of students with high Self-esteem is signicicant higher than students with low Self-esteem; two, the male and students with low Self-esteem are apt to use Behavioral Self-handicapping; three, the mutual effect between gender and Self-esteem level, between grade and Self-esteem level on Self-handicapping is remarkable high. That is to say, the male with low Self-esteem or the male with low Self-esteem in grade eleven and the female with low Self-esteem in grade eight are inclined to use Self-handicapping strategy.Study three, an natural experiment was designed to testify the result of study two, and according to the test of Self-esteem in study one, study two and study three whose main purpose is to observe Self-esteem's stability for exploring relation between Self-esteem and Self-handicapping, Learned Helplessness by between-subject design. 126 participants participated in the study, successful setting or unsuccessful setting were judged by difference between the grade of test and anticipation of test before the test. It had been found: one, in successful setting, the emotion of students whose Self-esteem level is high or low are similar, however, in un successful setting, their emotion, self-worth are significant different; two, self-worth of students with high Self-esteem are stable, and students with low Self-esteem changed easily according to environment; three, the more stable Self-esteem of individual is more tendency to Self-handicapping, Learned Helplessness; four, Self-esteem and Self-esteem stability have influence on Self-handicapping, Learned Helplessness.In study four similar to study three in design and stimulating setting but different in the exployees of 62, the aim of this study is to test students'Self-handicapping'proneness at the threaten appraise, and study'data is to test Self-esteem's stability in some former test. The result shows: one, the individual of male, low Self-esteem, high anxiety are inclined to use Self-handicapping stratedgy when faced with threaten appraise; two, the study validate the conclusion that the individual of low Self-esteem and individual unstable Self-esteem is apt to use Self-handicapping strategy.Finally, the conclusions were discussed, and the problems of this research and research orientation were provided.
