Based on the theory of collaborative teaching method (CT method) in SBE teaching, the thesis intends to apply the collaborative teaching between the subject teacher and language teacher in Chemical English teaching at college. The experiment selected two classes as samples, one was the experiment class taught by the CT method, the other was the controlled class instructed by the traditional teaching method from only one subject teacher. The experiment was carried out in Chemical Engineering Department, College of Science and Technology in Chongqing. The research mainly used the action research with questionnaires, interviews, tests and the teacher's journals to collect useful data, so as to examine the feasibility of CT method in Chemical English teaching, the results were discussed after the analysis of data in both qualitative and quantitative ways. By conducting the 12-week teaching, some results are shown as follows:1) According to the analysis of T test, the remarkable difference in the final average score between the experimental class and the controlled class does exist (T=2.397), and the remarkable difference between two tests in the experimental class also exist (T=2.039). Most of the experimental class students'score distribution is reasonable. The polarization of students'achievement in final test does not appear.2) In the experimental class, after the SBE course, students'interest in SBE learning increases to 60%, while only 16% of students in the controlled class show interest in SBE learning3) The students in the experimental class think they make progress in the language skills, for example: In the speaking, 65% of the students in the experimental class think they make progress, while 25% in the controlled class think so; In the reading, 57.5% of the students in the experimental class believe they make progress, while 22.5% in the controlled class think so; In the writing, 57.5% of the students in the experimental class think their skills are improved, while 17.5% of them in the controlled class think so; In the translating, 50% of the students in the experimental class think they make progress, while 40% of the students in the controlled class think so; In the listening, 30% of the students in the experimental class think they make some achievements, while only 10% of the students in the controlled class think so.4) As for other abilities, 45% and 52.5% of the students think their collaborative ability and the ability of selecting materials are enhanced.According to the above results, the CT method, as a comparatively new teaching mode, have some positive influences upon students'language skills and other abilities, which greatly help students know how to use English to solve the subject-related questions, and thus help increase students'interest. The method is feasible in Chemical English teaching. However, in the process of teaching, the lesson plan, as one part of CT method, costs too much time in preparation, which brings forth great challenges for the collaborative teachers. As the study is only a tentative teaching experiment based on the collaborative teaching mode, necessary improvement and modification are needed in other SBE teaching practice.
