The cave of Lingquan Monastery(灵泉寺)is one of the most important cave in Yecheng area( in Anyang, Henan province). It's old name is Baoshan Temple. It was built by hierarch Lingyu(A.D. 518-605) in the Wuding fourth year of Dongwei Dynasty. It was changed it's name to Lingquan Temple in Kaihuang eleventh year of Sui Dynasty(A.D. 591).The Lingquan Monastery and the caves around it not only have a long history and abundant connotation but also have special feature. Especially the two God images paintings at the both sides of Dazhu cave have extractive sculption and fine depiction, so they are rare of caves. This thesis studies on this two God image in Lingquan Monastery of Dazhu cave and analysis from macroscoprcal of the age background to microcosmic of the image contain substance.Via carding and analyzing of the body's kultur factorabout, the correlative divisor deity and common customs'cavalier, we attempting to recognize and fully unscramble of the Dazhu caves'God image origin and North towards religion image system .In this thesis the God images of Dazhu cave in Lingquan Monastery were investigated and studied mostly in four sections based on the plenty of practicality data.In the first section, we introdued the Lingquan Monastery, the Dazhu cave and the two God images and also analysed the historical data based on the recordation and rubbings.The second and third section are the key points of this thesis. In the second section the name of two God images in Dazhu cave was investiged. We paied attention on the similarities and differences of the image between the God, the Heaven and the knight. We also introduced the relationship between the Buddhism spirit (such as the God and Heaven) and common customs image (such as the knight). At last we discussed and explained from the two part of name concept and image.In the third section we studied deeply on the two God images of Dazhu cave in Lingquan Monastery from the image system after the comparison of the name. Baesd on the discussion on the five sides of face feature,the pinion hat on th head,weapons in the hand, dress, divinity things below the feet of the two God images, we excavated that the origination of the two God images are the amalgamation of culture and art of Indian religion, Greece, Persia and Turki. Then we will have more deep comprehension on these God images which appeared in Zhongyuan area of Sui dynasty. After discussion the carve location of the two God images, we found they also had the traditional Chinese common customs image character.In the fourth section, we compared and analysed the images correlation with the two God images of Dazhu cave in Lingquan Monastery involving the heaven and Ten God images. At last we gave the reason of concentrated appearance of the God image in the Zhongyuan area.Thus, image style method and compare typology are the main research methods in this thesis. Anciently, the key point of the art history research is the analysis and investigation about the macroscopic, while it turned to the deeply research and cognition on the case and detail. This thesis is emphasized particularly on the case analysis and it brings some idiographic research for the future of the art history. We also hope our research could provide some base knowledge for the further research on the Lingquan Monastery on the point of art history view.
