Rice market of Jiujiang city has a long history,going back to ancient times.It can be traced back to Tang or Song Dynasty,developped in Ming Dynasty,formed in the former and middle period of Qing Dynasty,prospered in the initial stage of Republic of China,declined and fell after the war of Resistance Against Japan.Taking the introduction of the outflow direction and quantity of Jiangxi grain as the point of penetration,and the phylogeny of Jiujiang City rice market as the main clue,this thesis combines the theories and methods of history and regional economics to briefly outline the whole development of traditional and modern rice market,putting emphasis on the combination of the modern,Jiangxi and the national rice market.The thesis can be divided into three chapters:The first chapter outlines the historical causes and development of traditional rice market of Jiujiang.On the basis of"Memoir of Qing Dynasty",the part introduces the forming causes and development phases of the traditional rice market and discusses with emphasis on the development scale, rice flow direction,historical characteristics and its role in the traditional society,then draws a conclusion that prosperity of rice trade of Jiangxi in Qing Dynasty mainly resulted from the influence of governmental economic policies.The second chapter relates the transformation of Jiujiang rice market and rice trade of modern Jiangxi.After estimating the outflow quantity of rice,introducing the basic flow direction of rice,managing survey of rice compannies and merchants,it compares the two rice markets of Jiujiang and Nanchang,analyzes their respective characteristics to reflects the prosperity of trade and market of Jiangxi rice trade at that time.However, due to the special historical situations of the late period in modern time, rice trade of Jiangxi shrank and diaappeared completely from modern society.It holds the opinion that the prosperity of modern rice market was mainly achieved by regulationsales of rice market of Jiangxi and the whole country. The third chapter evaluates the position of Jiujiang rice market in modern rice trade.As one of the four main rice market,Jiujiang rice market improved the regional balance of rice supply and demand in the whole country. Compared with other three,Jiujiang rice market occupied its own particular post in the respects of outflow quantity,outflow places and promotion of economic development of near provinces.To Jiangxi and Jiujiang,Jiujiang rice market played a more active role in activating modern rice market,accelerated the process of modernization of produce,improved the development of commercial trade of the whole province. However,to our disappointment,Jiujiang was always a transfer station without development of the economy of rice industrial chain. What's more,trade profits wasn't changed into industrial capital,so Jiujiang's economic development lacked in backing and was unvivid.It presented a decline in late modern society.
