This article starts with the probe into the spiritual connotation of the traditional Chinese freehand brushwork,bases on the in-depth understanding of "temperament" and "quality" and links with contemporary western Phenomenology and Existentialism philosophy,the common characteristics are elucidated and the intersection of the starting theories of the Chinese and Western painting is also covered in this paper.This article also analyzes the influences of the painting tidal current of contemporary western Figurative Expressionism on Chinese contemporary oil paintings,and it summarized the localization trend of freehand brushwork in the contemporary Chinese painting.The meaning and value of the upholding and the carrying forward of the spirit of freehand brushwork is also elucidated.The article is divided into five main parts:Introduction:the concepts of "temperament" and "quality" are introduced.Chapter 1:"Temperament ":the pursuit of the freedom and the detachment of the spirit;"quality":- the inquiry into the real substance of the universe.In this part,the discussion starts from the vividness of the image and the combination of both the image and temperament,and analyze of the western Phenomenology and the existentialism,the common ground of the ancient Chinese thought on art and the contemporary Western thought on art are described. Taking two epoch-making Masters Shi Tao and Cezanne and their thoughts as examples,the inevitable trend of the using "temperament" as the thinking source and nutrition is also elucidated.Chapter 2:A comparative analysis demonstrates the inspiration of Western Figurative Expressionism painting and its combination with the Chinese freehand brushwork paintings,which strengthen the confidence in our own unique temperament in Chinese art.Chapter 3:Talks about the creation of oil paintings with Chinese temperament.It starts with the exploration of the spiritual connotation of freehand brushwork and describes the carrying on of the Chinese tradition in the works,the integration and transformation of the Western Figurative Expressionism painting,which shows the probing process of the Chinese oil paintings in freehand brushwork.Chapter 4:insistence on the Figurative Expressionism is an inevitable choice of Chinese painters,and the spirit of freehand brushwork is an internal need of Chinese painters.Conclusion...
