| Huang fushi was one of the famous writers in the middle-Tang dynasty who kept pace with the well-known literary giant Hanyu. However, the studies done about Huang fushi by posterities were far insufficient and there being much space for exploring. The thesis is the textual research about the lifetime of Huang fushi, but there are still some questions unsolved, owing to my inadequate scholar abilities and the absent historic files. Anyway, attributing to Huang fushi' reputation, including his eccentric behaviors and outstanding works, we can still know about his lifetime on the whole. And I hope these studies can pay a way for the further research work. After preliminary inspection, I draw a conclusion that Huang fushi was born in AD787 and died in AD835, with a life-span of about 49 years. As a young man ,he was brilliant and commended by Gukuang who was a great writer at that time. When he was 16 years old, he leaf home to take part in the imperial civil service examination test in the capital. Before this admission exam, he was visited by some peers who became famous literary writers later. But unexpectedly, being talented but haughty, he failed in that test, and even encountered successive failure in the next two years. In the following year, he finally passed another examination which was presided by the emperor in person with the best achievement, and became an official in the central government. Unfortunately, he was repelled later on to remote counties several times in several years due to his arrogant personality. At his late years, he was transferred to the capital again, but died in a coup before long. His friends included many contemporary literature writers, such as Hanyu, Li'ao, Jiadao, Baijuyi and so on, besides he was fond of instructing students too. |
