The starting point of this paper is to explore the approach for notebook design for middle school students to stand out in the market full of similar products which have low-price and small form-factors. The key design question in the research was target users'real needs searching and value-added product. This paper discusses the user needs, especially the potential needs of the middle school students. The research aimed to build up a seamless connection between the results of market research and the exploration of user needs in the medium-term product development process from the perspective of the design process so as to access the design solution effectively and trusty. On the basis of distinction of functional needs and emotional needs, this paper tries to explore the students'needs of the notebook computer, using the approach of focus group and scenario analysis. And then the relationship between the two methods and the two kinds of needs is identified from the perspective of methodology. That the re-interpretation of the needs expressed is the key to the focus group and scenario analysis which both based on lifestyle. Starting from the lifestyle exploration, the focus group obtain the original information of the emotional needs according to defined the end users, then it supports the design of notebook for middle school student as a emotional basic; the scenario analysis also starts from the lifestyle exploration, though it describes users'lifestyle and experience directly and obtain the original information of the functional needs, it supports the design of notebook for middle school student as a functional basic. Based on these researches, this paper proposes a framework of the needs analysis from the perspective of the design process. |
