Iron culture relics have great historic value, which utilization sign a great progress in human history.Because of the properties of iron, it is diffcult to rentend for iron culture relics. Then the iron culture relics which were retended are very precious.Just because of this ,protection of iron culture relics is diffcult and important. The author read o lot of data of preserving iron culture relics before writing the article ,The author find the majority of the data is about a certain aspect of protecting iron culture relics such as technology of desalting, technology of deacidification, development of protection materials, but researching on the mechanism of its corrosion is very few.The writer decided to study the mechanism of its corrosion abased on analysising the composition of corrosion products.32 the corrosion of iron artifacts Samples, In this paper , are made XRD analysis, and an conclusion are drawn that the major components of iron artifacts are three kinds phase structure FeOOHand tri-iron tetroxide(Fe3O4), with a very small number of ferric oxide(Fe2O3),which is different from we have known.9 samples of them ,unearthed in Guangxi ,are made IR,XRF analysis, the conclusion consistent with the conclusion of the XRD analysis. Also, microphotography,SEM are used to revealed the structure of the corrosion of iron artifacts.Abased of this ,I study the mechanism of iron relics—take the iron relics unearthed in Guangxi for example. The factors of corrosion of iron relics include both internal cause and external cause. the main aspect is Internal cause which include four aspects:active chemical nature of iron is the primary factor; potential difference caused by Fe-C is another internal cause; different organizations that is caused by different manufacturing process have different impact on corrosion of iron relics; in addition ,the composition and structure of corrosion products will also affect the further corrosion of iron culture relics. The impact of external cause is the key that are to explore the mechanism of corrosion of iron artifacts in this article. The external causes have maily a few aspects for example: humidity or water on the corrosion of iron relics; oxygen on the corrosion of iron relics; chloride( Cl ?)and sulfate ion( SO4 2?)on the corrosion of iron relics;the harmful gases in the air on the corrosion of iron relics; particles in the air on the corrosion of iron relics; soluble salt on the corrosion of iron relics; the environment change before and after the unearth on the corrosion of iron relics. Through research and analysis, I believe that water and oxygen are the main and important impacts on corrosion of iron relics, so the preservation of iron artifacts emphasize first of all "anti-oxygen, water-proof", which in our view, "alkaline, anhydrous, anaerobic, non - salt, no harmful gases "iron are the best environment for the preservation of iron relics.Abased of a clear understanding of the corrosion mechanism of iron relics, the author ,under the guidance of instructor, have protected seven representative iron relics unearthed or effluent in Guangxi region. Because of the corrosion degree difference, different methods of protection are used , but mainly operating procedures are approximately same, The main steps are as follows: the removal of dust—to remove gently the floating dust or rust on the surface with soft brush; derusting—to derust soft rust generally chemical method and mechanical method are used and chemical reagent includes acetate and phosphate, toremove rust rigid application apart from the use of soft rust rust methods, but also the use of dental grinding tools; the removal of deposition film—multi-layer paper aplication act by 8% hexametaphosphate solution; deacidification, desalination - the use of alternating hot and cold water and application of multi-layer paper by distilled water; strengthening—repeated brushing the utensils by 4-5% of pmma chloroform solution; repairing—the use of 4-5% pmma chloroform solution to reconcile the removed rust to fill; corrosion - the use of HFM metal corrosion inhibitor for treatment; seal up and protection—the use of 2-3% pmma solution of chloroform repeatedly brushing, and finally with chloroform solvent treatment extinction. Through above treatment, the seven iron cultural relicses have been cleared the harmful rust, salt and other harmful substances, exposing the iron ownself color,PH value of the surface is neutral, which is favorable to preservation iron relics. Through the determination of water absorption, water absorption is 0.011 percent, which is effective care that can be effective in isolation from the environment moisture and oxygen to reach the purpose of the protection of iron relics.
