Study Of Mencius' Political Legitimacy

Since reform and opening up, with the Western culture in China has achieved a better communication and development, the research for the Western culture almost entirely replaced the position of the traditional culture. However, the development of western culture has its own soil, being transferred to our native country forcibly will lead to a exclusion. In recent years, "traditional culture" starts a revival of the existing, Chinese people began to reflect on some problems in recent China. This act unwittingly puts us back onto the traditional culture, so that we reuse the modern vision to examine and considerate our traditional culture.In the Confucian tradition, Mencius's unique idea of "You-Jun-min light" has the special historical influence. As a concept of managing state affairs and governance, the idea for people serves as the role of the feudal moralist and it has laid a theoretical foundation for two thousand years of Chinese rule of the feudal autocratic monarchy and has maintained and consolidated the rule of the monarchy's political order. In the view of the important role of political thought of Mencius, this article attempts to study the political thought of Mencius using "political legitimacy" theory as the breakthrough point.Through the analysis, we know that the idea of Mencius, which contains the political idea of "political legitimacy". The political factors such as the basis of political legitimacy, the political crisis of legitimacy, the ways to legalization had been infiltrated into Mencius's political thought. Starting from the bases of the legitimacy, Mencius began to talk about the legitimacy of the source of authority and analysis the reasons why the monarch loss the power of ruling people. In order to maintain the feudal monarchy form, Mencius advocates the way to Political legalization from the political, economic and cultural aspects, taking some measures for people to eliminate the common people's disagreement with the politic. So that, from the inner depths, people give identity to the rule of the monarch loyalty and lastingly.Because of his political thought which had a certain historical limitation, Mencius, as a famous Confucian scholar, made China under the rule of the feudal autocratic monarchy in a long period. As a result, China can not take the road to the democratization in Western countries. However, we should not turn a blind eye to the essence of traditional culture, on the contrary, should face up to the traditional culture, from which we capture the essence, to serve the socialist modernization.
