This paper is an analysis and research on Visual Symbols of Mao Zedong Era from the angle of art design. Discovering the relationship between the visual symbols and all aspects in Chinese society. Searching for the evolution law of visual design essence in that stage.The first part of this text is the introduction based on the research background, expressed the research Purposes and contents, and define related concepts. The Second chapter is briefly concerned with historical background of Mao Zedong Era. Classified into yan'an and liberated area stage (1942-1949), establishment of P.R.C. to culture revolution stage (1949-1965), culture revolution stage (1966-1976).The third chapter is classification of Visual Symbols of Mao Zedong Era. Classified into woodcut Cartoon, poster, new spring festival painting, tickets, advertisement design, cigarette label, flags, badge, Garment, architecture and so on. Then analysis these Visual Symbols combined with historical background. The chapter Four make a summarize for the vision design style character of Mao Zedong Era from the politics subject matter, process and simplify mode, simplistic figure symbol and color, boldfaced font and realism exhibition technique. Then analyze the vision design of Mao age from politics, economy, and people taste request, psychology, influence from U.S.S.R., to reveal the countless ties with each lays of the present age China. The fifth chapter is discussed the effects of Mao's literary and artistic thought to Visual design of Mao Era. Such as the popular viewpoint of Mao Zedong, viewpoint of the literature should service for revolution, viewpoint of practice, nationality, stratocracy, and the viewpoint from realism & romanticism of revolution. The chapter six is discussed the effects of Mao Era's Visual Symbols to Contemporary Art and design. The chapter seven is the conclusion.
