The West medieval visual art is mainly about the sacred art which spread the culture of Christian. At the beginning of Christianity, the problem of whether by word or by image spreading Christian doctrine was concerned by theologians. The image was inevitably used as a certain way for propagating doctrine on some extent. In early middle age , the image walked a long way from be denied to be accepted. In the constant support and against, the image successfully gained the approval of official at last.Based on west medieval art history, the social background, the theology and aesthetics, this dissertation tries to analyze the aspect of early medieval art, and how the image was being denied to accepted.
