Beijing Fangshan Landscape Stone Research

Fangshan landscape stone is one type of landscape stone which was widely used inBeijing royal landscape, because of the geographical position and its own characteristics,fangshan landscape stone was widely used in northern royal landscape. Fangshan landscapestone had vigorous and sincere characteristics, and it was combined with the characteristicssuch as vigorous, solemn and grand size and volume of northern royal landscape, whichpushed the Chinese classical landscape art to a high peak. It can be said that classic landscapeis the carrier of Chinese traditional culture, and it is also the miniature of Chinese history andculture. As the artistic mark of Chinese northern landscape, Fangshan landscape stone is theimportant material of constructing landscape. Chinese ancients had inventive mind in the useof stone in constructing landscape, and gradually formed abundant stone piling and stoneplacing culture and craft, so the mountain and stone landscape in northern landscape hasbright national characteristics and unique cultural connotation.Consummating constantly in Beijing landscapes system development, integrating withthe whole garden environment, harmonizing well with rivers,plants and buildings, Fangshanlandscape stone formatted the specific artistic characters of landscapes in Northern China,which reach the summit of landscape art. Along with time changes, the content and nature oflandscapes changed greatly. However, Fangshan landscape stone is also popular in modernlandscapes and being frequently used in Beijing landscapes.By collecting and processing the related literatures based on the investigation, this paperfirstly expounded the relation between lakeside rocks,southern Taihu stones and Fangshanlandscape stone from the classification,formation and use, then it expounded theformation,distribution,transportation and appreciation. This paper also emphaticallyanalyzed the skill to use Fangshan stone in classical and modern landscapes. Finally, itanalyzed and summed up the uses in the two famous landscapes which is respectively aancient and a modern. This paper wanted to research the local characteristics of Fangshanlandscape stone in the stone pilling and stone placing culture, discard the traditionallimitation, hold the practical significance of traditional idea and blend into the environmentof the modern life.
