The purposes of this thesis are exploring the creations of Lin Yutang in English literature and evaluating their significance and impact on cross-cultural communication under the situation of the culture of the United States context. At that time, the United States, was up a "Chinese fever", because Oriental poetry was seen as healing remedy defects of Western civilization, on the other hand, the outbreak of the Pacific War, the United States had a need to have a moral guilt and understanding to China, which was an allies in the war. Therefore, Lin's English opuses were emerged, which also led to wide-ranging implications. Under the complicity of the deliberate self-modeling and western culture, Lin created a "Chinese" speech, he coordinated his ideas as "humanism", which is clearly a concept from the West, so it does not equivalent to China itself. Lin Yutang's English works were responded flatly, even criticized, but they were very popular in the United States and had a far-reaching impact. He stirred up the imagination of "multiculturalism" of the world in American culture, as well as the attitude of China's pursuit of leisure life, and they created Anti-Japanese War indomitable image of China. With the evolving of Lin Yu-tang's impact in the United States, which penetrated into the study of poetry, feminism, immigration and other aspects, it became a "symbol" more than a vector of the word-"China". Today's cultural workers are still faced with the same problem as the one in Lin's period, that is, how to express "self and at the same time not be caught in the dilemma of western strong culture in the face of a strong culture. Therefore, this article attempts to evaluate the Lin Yutang's English writings and their impacts on the situation of East-West cultural exchange objectively, which could hopefully be a good reference for the study nowadays.
