Paleolithic Archeology And Discussion On Some Related Problems In Circum-Bohai-Sea Region

In this paper, this thesis makes a preliminary study on the stone tool industry and paleoenvironment from the Lower Paleolithic to the Upper Paleolithic in Circum Bohai-Sea region. First of all, this paper reviews the study of newly found in this region, including the background of scientific investigations and new achievements on paleoanthropological research, the results of archaeological excavations conducted in 20 Century, and typological, technological and functional analyses on the unearthed lithic artifacts, as well as the age and nature of the Paleolithic sites. This study indicates that some typical industrial characteristics are summarized on the basis of the Paleolithic culture of this region, and Paleolithic culture is divided into several different stages in the whole developmental process of Paleolithic culture. Besides, this paper attempts to discuss and make some conclusions on the interactional relationship between the Paleolithic culture and paleoenviorment in this region.1. The study on the Paleolithic archaeology of the Circum-Bohai-Sea region in the 20th Century is divided into four periods: 1) Initated period is regarded as the beginning of study on Paleolithic Archaeology in 1920-1940. The discovery of Peking Man skull fossils are looked on as an important symbol; 2) Growing period (or preliminary developmental period) is charactered by resuming the Paleolithic excavation of Zhoukoudian site in 1950-1960, and the methods and theories of Paleolithic Archaeology are generalized to other areas; 3) It is a flourishing period of new discoveries in Paleolithic Archaeology in 1970-1980, many scholars have found so many Paleolithic sites in this period, it provides abundant data to Paleolithic research; 4) It is regarded as Mature or developed period from 1990 up to the present. In this period, many scholars introduce many new theories and methods such as use-wear analysis and chaine operatoire,for lithic analysis as the important characteristics of new technologies, from discovery to explore methods to study the theory of expertise are in line with international standards has reached a mature level.2, At trichotomy based on the geological strata and cultural development of the characteristics of the Paleolithic were divided into early and late morning, two nights, plus the mid-Paleolithic Period, the total period is divided into five major cultural development of the Paleolithic culture of the region to carry out a more detailed analysis, and each time the characteristics of cultural development are summarized, sort out a more clear Paleolithic industrial technology from the simple to the original development of sophisticated thread.3, Since the region of Quaternary palaeoclimate, Palaeogeography of the evolution of the process of observation, control Paleolithic development process of human culture, of both the relationship between the closely linked: the basic human activities, the early complete subject to the natural environment, environmental appropriate, frequent human activities on the obvious; environmental degradation, the human culture into the clear on the recession; to the late end of the particular, human customer service than the capacity of poor environmental conditions gradually increased, and is suitable for dry and cold desert steppe The small stone industry is the emergence of a large area as evidenced by the best.
