The works of Bette Bao Lord.a Chinese-American writer,present vividly the exchange and integration of American culture and Chinese one.thus bridge the gap between the two cultures.Centered on Spring Moon.this dissertation,through classifying the content of its prologue,analyzes the important role the prologue plays in the stucture.plot and Chinese cultural appeal of the novel as well as the author's cultural imagination reflected by what's fabricated in the prologue.In addition,by analyzing the three main kinds of characters in Bette Bao Lord's works—those who are submissive,rebellious,and revolutionary respectively.the dissertation reveals the conflicts between Chinese and western cultures that these characters are faced up with in the drastic social change.people's predicaments in the modern times and also the author's reflection on Chinese revolutions.Based on the time "code" the author sets in Spring Moon.this dissertation makes a deduction on the chronological frame of narration in this novel,probes into the different images of the Chinese cities mentioned in the novel,sums up the Chinese elements scattered in the novel and makes a thorough analysis of the author's viewpoints on "the others'perspectives".Based on all the above and referring to Bette Bao Lord's other works,this dissertation aims at a further study on the characteristics and significance of Bette Bao Lord's Chinese epic narration.
