The Changes Of Clan Education In Late Qing Dynasty And Republic Of China

Clan education is an important means in cultural inheritance and social control in traditional social. In modern society, as the national conflict became more terrible and western civilization spread wider, clan education presented a new trend:went scientific and democratic from fedual and conservative. This formation strongly influenced the children’s character in clan. Based on the previous studies, writer explored and analysised the change of clan education from three aspects:school education, family education and social ethics standard. The dissertation includes the changes of the goal, content, method, and function of clan education in modern society. And from these, understand how the clan education developmed in sino-Chinese cultural-exchange objectively and historical. The thesisr is divided into four parts.The first part of the thesis discusses the reason of clan education’s change in modern society. The development of commodity economy and traffic, the disseminatin of the revolution spirit with "home to dream" characteristic, and the western culture, all these promoted the change and development of clan education. The clan organization could adapt the social situation and change their own organization principles,activity ways and social role according to social change, showed its strong toughness and adaptability.The second part of the thesis discusses changes of school education and social education in this period. School education’s change mainly shows from the starting of overseas education, the reform of clan school, and the rise of new school. The change of social education is mainly embodied in the ethics education.The third part of the thesis discusses the general situation of the modern family education. Including the importance of family education in the clan and the main ways to carry out it. In addition to the pedigree and family instructions that embodyied the clan will, modern clans also pay attention to provide a good conditions for their children,both in weath and spirit.The core presons in clan influenced children’s values, literature and art education gave them higher moral quality.The fourth part of the thesis discusses the changes of modern family education. The aim of education changed from "loyal to the house" to "loyal to the country", the content and the way of education began to learn advanced western science, family relations have shown a democratization trend, the absolute authority of parents was broken, "filial piety" concept began to relax. Educational function was not only simple tending and enlightenment,but also help the children to develop scientifically and comprehensively.In this period, education no longer simply relied on affection and instinct, but pay more attention to scientific education methods and the growth law of children.The modern clan education as a possy of spreading western culture and revolutionary ideas, is an epitome of the modern clan society transformation.
