Beginning from the 20th century, the research on the psychology of literary creation has aroused active concern and attention from literary psychologists and aestheticians. Mania is an important mental stage in calligraphy composition, and is a kind of unconscious composing state.The function if unconscious creativity in cursive composition is a very important theoretical topic. For a long time, fully acknowledges the existence of this phenomenon-especially the pervasive existence in mania, while on the other hand, the evaluation of its role turns to be quite divergent. Thus the exploration of the psychological generative mechanism of this composing stage will undoubtedly be of great importance in cursive composition. This paper is composed of three parts: the preface, main body and the conclusion.The main body is further divided into three chapters. The first chapter begins from the traditional calligraphy theory, analyzes three stages of cursive composing, and expounds the figures of mania in cursive composition and its representation-the formal beauty in calligraphic works.Chinese calligraphy is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture and art tradition; therefore, the second chapter explores the cultural background of the manic stage of cursive composition from the Chinese art tradition and culture juste-milieu. The third chapter explores the essence and rule of the unconscious phenomenon from the angle of psychology, systematically analyzes the role of unconsciousness in cursive composition, and tries to make a scientific research and evaluation towards the phenomenon.of mania in calligraphy composition.Cursive composition is the catharsis of emotions, the reflection about life, the discovery of soul, and the renewal of intelligence. Studying on the mental stage of calligraphy composition, and understanding the role of manic state in cursive composition will make the calligraphers gain a good command of the psychological features in cursive composing, show his or her own soul, sublimate in the process of composition, and thus accelerate the development of the art of calligraphy.
