This paper, referring to Locke's An Essay concerning Human Understanding, tries to define the proper standing of Locke's philosophical thought in the aspect of language in the history of philosophy, combs integrally Locke's thought of linguistic philosophy to discuss his doctrines on theory of idea,theory of knowledge,word,name,proposition,truth and so on, and indicates analytically, connecting the relevant topics in the modern linguistic philosophy, that Locke's linguistic philosophy is built on the basis of his empirical epistemology. Locke's linguistic philosophy has a deep characteristic of epistemology, and is submitted to his epistemology, which is fairly different from the modern linguistic philosophy, but his some thoughts takes a deep influence on the modern linguistic philosophy.
